| 1. | Q. | How to get candle wax out of your carpet? |
| A. | Have you ever dropped a hot candle or just tipped a burning candle over? If so then you'll know just how horrible candle wax can be to your carpet. The stuff goes everywhere, and it hardens so quickly that you have just about no time to do anything about it. Once the candle was does harden, there is not much you can do about it, but I do have an easy solution for you. It's a common problem that many people seem to be having, but no one really knows just how easy it is to solve. Let me first say that this solution will involve using a hot iron, so you should be careful at all times. Simply take a clothes iron heated to a high temp and a very wet hand towel or large washcloth preferably white. Lay the wet towel (nearly soaking wet but not dripping) on top of the wax spot and apply the iron. Allow to stand for 10 – 15 seconds checking frequently to ensure you are not melting the carpet. The heat will melt the wax and draw it into the towel. Turn the towel frequently and repeat the process until wax spot is gone. |

| 2. | Q. | How to get red Kool Aid stain out of your carpet? |
| A. | If you have kids then you have faced this problem many times. The secret to getting that stubborn “red stain” out of your carpet is really quite simple and is something you can try using common household products. Much like getting wax out of your carpet the secret to removing the “red stain” involves heat. So grab a clothes iron and a very wet white hand towel and this time you’ll need to add a 3rd tool to your arsenal which is a clear glass cleaner. What I’m talking about is a product such as Windex which is typically BLUE but can be found in the clear version which is what you want. I REPEAT-- DO NOT USE A PRODUCT THAT IS COLORED such as the blue Windex. This will cause your home remedy to be disaster and will result in your “red stain” becoming a blue mess. The clear window cleaner should have a high ammonia content which is the key to the success of this procedure. With these three ingredients (iron, wet towel & clear window cleaner) apply a generous amount of the window cleaner to the stain, lay the wet towel on top and then apply the iron and allow to stand for 10-15 seconds. I again caution that the towel should be very wet almost to the point of dripping. This will ensure you do not melt your carpet under the heat of the iron. Rotate the towel periodically and repeat the process. The towel will become stained YELLOW to BROWNISH as the “red stain” is transferred to the towel from the carpet. You will not be able to reuse the towel in the future so use something you don’t mind tossing out after you are finished. |

| 5 | Q. | What to do when pet accidents happen? |
| A. | With 6 in 10 homes nationwide now having at least one pet the inevitable is bound to occur and knowing what to do can help reduce the long term negative effects of pet accidents on your homes carpet and indoor air quality. Urine is made up of 95% water and the remaining 5% contains things such as uric acid, salt, ammonia and many other biohazards. When urine is permitted to dry without being cleaned up an interesting thing happens. The salt that is present in the urine crystallizes on the carpet fiber and encases things such as ammonia and uric acid. The ammonia is responsible for the odor that urine leaves behind and the uric acid is often associated with the yellow discoloration of the carpet itself. These pesky salt crystals are not easily broken down to release these contaminates. Water & detergent alone will not do the trick. So what can you do to prevent this from happening?
If the spot has dried all is not lost………… We have some very scientific yet simple means of handling these spots that can virtually eliminate them no matter what state they are in. We use an enzyme product that is literally a micro-organism that feeds on these salt crystals and consumes them to rid your carpet of the odor and in most cases the discoloration. These enzymes are applied to freshly cleaned carpet when you have your carpets serviced by our professional team of carpet, upholstery and tile cleaning technicians. They have all been certified by the IICRC in odor control and know the most effective means of eliminating pet odors in your homes interiors. |
